Ch-Ch- China

I'm not sure how to start this whole blogging thing, so I'm going to talk about Spode china, which I'm in love with. Particularly Floral Haven. I got this for my wedding.

The plates, bowls, and mugs all have different little montages, mostly bugs and flowers, and for the most part they're charming. However--and this ranks as one of life's big mysteries--some of the pieces are inexplicably straight out of the eighties in a bad way. I can't figure it out. Like, why exactly are there charger plates in acid-washed green that look like jeans? And why is the footed compote shaped like a gigantic sunflower from Little Shop of Horrors? Do people like that?

Needless to say, I went a la carte and stuck to the cleaner pieces, so there's no trace of the soft California stuff. But the main point is that flowery china is so much more interesting than white dishes, and I wish more people would go there. Not that I'm knocking white dishes. I have those, too. The only difference is that I'm patiently waiting for all of my white dishes to break one by one, at which point I probably won't replace them. Now if you're reading this and thinking, "It's Election Day! Who cares?," don't worry, I voted. And enough people are writing about politics. I dare you to find another blog about Spode.
